Report on ICSSR-Sponsored National Seminar on Integrating Indian Knowledge System in Higher Education
The Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) sponsored a two-day national seminar on Integrating Indian Knowledge System in Higher Education for Global Excellence in the MEP 2020 Era on 6th and 7th March 2025 at NSS Training College, Ottapalam. The seminar was organized in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and NSS Unit No. 301. It aimed to explore the role of Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) in higher education and their integration with modern learning as per the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The seminar provided a platform for academicians, policymakers, faculty members, research scholars, and students (M.Ed. and B.Ed.) to present papers and share insights on the topic. Selected papers were announced for publication in an edited book with an ISBN. The event was conducted offline, with only registered participants allowed to attend.
The first day of the seminar, 6th March, began with registration at 9:00 AM, followed by a prayer. Prof. Dr. Seema Menon KP, the Seminar Coordinator, delivered the welcome speech, and Prof. Dr. Smitha, Principal-in-Charge, presided over the ceremony. The seminar was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. M.T.V. Nagaraju, Dean, Faculty of Education, Niragandi National Tribal University, Amarkandak, who also delivered the inaugural speech. Felicitations were given by Dr. Sankaranarayan Paleeri, IQAC Coordinator of NSS Training College, Ottapalam, and Dr. Lakshmi, Staff Secretary. Akshay S chairman, the College Union representative, delivered the vote of thanks. The first technical session, led by Prof. Dr. M.T.V. Nagaraju, focused on Teacher Education under NEP 2020 and IK Scenario: A Policy Discussion, followed by student paper presentations. After lunch, Dr. Vaibhav Jadhav from Pune University conducted the second technical session on Navigating the Sailors: Teacher, Teaching, and Learner, Learning under NEP 2020, integrating real-life examples. After a tea break, students and researchers presented their papers.
The second day, 7th March, began with the third technical session on Enduring IKs for Research and Teaching in Higher Education: Perspectives of NEP 2020, led by Dr. Sankara Narayanan Paleeri, Assistant Professor at NSS Training College,Ottapalam. The fourth technical session was a panel discussion on Synergies and Tensions of Higher Education in India during the NEP 2020 Period, chaired by Prof. Dr. C.M. Bindhu, HOD, Department of Education, University of Calicut, and Dean, Faculty of Education, Kannur University. The panelists included Sri Abdul Assis KP, Dr. Niranjana KP, and Dr. Renu Mol, who shared valuable perspectives. This was followed by more paper presentations. The valedictory ceremony commenced at 3:00 PM with a prayer. Dr. Sheeba Krishnan, Staff Advisor, gave the welcome speech, followed by the presidential address by Prof. Dr. Smitha. The valedictory address was delivered by Prof. Dr. C.M. Bindhu, and participant representatives shared their retrospections. Certificates were distributed by the Chief Guest, and the event concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Dr. Seema Menon KP, followed by the National Anthem.
